Road Accident Victim Wins Multi-Million Pound Settlement

A man who was left with severe disabilities after a horrific road accident caused by another motorist has been awarded millions of pounds in compensation.

Nazer Ahadi, 22, was on his way to work at a bakery when he was involved in a head-on collision with another vehicle which was trying to overtake a lorry.

In hospital, he was treated for extensive brain damage. Doctors thought that he would never walk again, but he has made remarkable progress following hard work in rehabilitation. He has nevertheless been left with substantial long-term problems and will continue to need to undergo extensive rehabilitation and require around-the-clock care.

In court, the judge awarded Mr Ahadi a lump sum of £2.3 million and periodical payments of £145,000 a year for life. A large proportion of this amount will pay for the specially adapted home Mr Ahadi needs, as well as meeting the cost of his ongoing care needs.

This case illustrates the serious and long-term impact that an accident such as this can have. Statistics from the Department for Transport indicate that 230,905 people were injured on Great Britain’s roads in 2008, with 2,538 people killed and 26,034 seriously injured.
