Injured Motorcyclist Wins £1.25 Million
A green-keeper who suffered a serious brain injury after being knocked off his motorbike has been awarded a £1.25 million settlement in compensation.
Stuart Bridge, 53, was knocked off his motorbike in Manchester city centre by an uninsured driver. He was thrown over the car bonnet and crashed into a bollard, landing on his head.
In the accident, Mr Bridge’s spine was fractured and he suffered a severe head injury. He underwent months of rehabilitation and has been left with poor concentration, mobility problems and slurred speech. As a result, he has been unable to return to work as head green-keeper at a golf club.
As the car driver was uninsured, Mr Bridge’s claim was dealt with by the Motor Insurers’ Bureau (MIB), an organisation set up for the purpose of compensating the victims of negligent uninsured and untraced motorists.
The High Court awarded Mr Bridge a lump sum of £1.25 million plus periodical payments of £57,500 a year. These amounts are to cover his lost income and pension as well as the cost of his care, therapy and a car and home adapted to meet his needs.
The driver of the uninsured car was fined and had her licence endorsed for driving without due care and attention.
